かなチャレンジ Kana challenge
ようこそ Welcome
Kanji Scholar teaches all 2,136 Jōyō kanji by writing them. New to kanji? Start from the beginning. Already know some? The placement test starts easy and adapts to your level. Readings are written in kana, so if you can't read hiragana and katakana yet, learn those first. Kana and the 80 Grade 1 kanji are free.
報告 Report a problem
Your strokes for this kanji go with the report, so we can check them against the model. Nothing else about you is included.

Kanji Scholar について About
Daily practice for the 2,136 Jōyō kanji. Write each kanji from memory; every stroke is checked in order, and spaced-repetition ensures you don't forget it.
Scores
Every kanji you write scores out of 10. You lose 1.5 for each stroke you have to redo, 2 for each hint, up to 2 if the shape is loose, and if you peek at the answer you will only score a maximum of 2.
- 完璧! Perfect: clean, neat, from memory
- よくできました Great: a slip or a loose stroke
- まあまあ Not bad: several slips or a hint; it comes back sooner
- がんばろう Keep at it: shown the answer; you'll revisit this in a minute.

読み方 Readings
What are on'yomi and kun'yomi?
On'yomi (音) came from Chinese and are mostly used in compound words, like 生活 (セイカツ, life). Kun'yomi (訓) are native Japanese, used when the kanji stands alone or with kana, like 生きる (いきる, to live). “Everyday” shows the readings schools teach first; “All official” adds the rarer ones, marked 中 (middle school) or 高 (high school).
